Sony’s Attempt To Boost Vita Sales Through PlayStation Plus Membership

Despite the struggling Vita sales Sony remains confident to support the system and that they are happy on where the system is going. While many people are screaming at them to make a price cut it most likely won’t come until a newer model is developed in possibly a years time, aside from terrible adverts featuring the most casual ever looking people even though Sony were meant to aim the Vita at hardcore gamers, they have decided to expand PlayStation Plus membership to the Vita and make it absolutely free for existing members. PlayStation Plus service is one of Sony’s most successful attempts at actually getting things right this gen (Unlike the PSP Go which failed miserably).

The scheme itself offers an array of top quality PS Vita games and features to existing members at no extra cost and make it available for those who want to sign up. Lets have a look at what’s in store for European and American Plus members.

EUROPE Membership

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • Gravity Rush
  • Escape Plan
  • Unit 13
  • Hustle Kings
  • MotorStorm RC
  • Super Stardust Delta and Advanced Star Fighter Pack Bundle
  • Top Darts
  • Little Deviants
  • Modnation Racers: Road Trip
  • Reality Fighters
  • Chronovolt
  • Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!

US Membership

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • Jet Set Radio HD
  • WipEout 2048
  • Gravity Rush
  • Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack!
  • (PSP) Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions.

  • (While the EU list seems bigger there is mostly likely a large line-up of titles due for US membership so don’t worry and also please note that the EU List is not all being released at one but over a period of time)

Along side the games is also another 1GB Cloud Storage for saves, automatic trophy syncing and discounts. My guess is that Sony is hoping that the large majority of subscribers who haven’t already bought a PS Vita will pick one up with all those free games lying around with them games being some of the best the Vita has to offer and it’s to be expected since they need good quality launch content to kick the whole thing off. While this may bring more people to buy a Vita it may also induce people who own a Vita to sign up for membership. The PS Vita itself is no where near it’s maximum potential in terms of software features either. Sony over the years will slowly upgrade the Vita through software updates and apps bit by bit providing new features to keep fans interested, however that cycle is slowly coming to an end for the PS3 but until then I’ll leave you with this video.

Update 2.00 which is due to launch soon will bring PS+ functionality to the Vita. PS+ Will be available 19 Nov US and 21 Nov EU.
